Hi all,
As a result of the proposed legislation in England, one of the small
Dutch calvinist (read: fundamentalist) parties (SGP) has asked the
minister of justice to comment on those proposals. Below follows a
translation of these question. The minister has another week or so to
respond.
For the moment I'm not yet really concerned: this is a political party
that doesn't even allow women to become full members, but it is an
indication that American/British trends may be spreading further. Also,
I wouldn't be surprised if our current government would actually give
thought to these matters. Also, I think it is somewhat relevant here, as
one question concerns the possibility of initiating European legislation
on extreme pornography.
Apologies for my English in the translation, the formal parliamentary
language is somewhat difficult to translate. If it is not clear, by all
means ask for clarification.

Written questions of Member of Parliament Van der Staaij (SGP) to the
Minister of Justice, concerning a British ban on watching and
downloading of extreme pornography.
1. Have you taken notice of the intention of the British government to
make punishable the watching and downloading of extreme forms of
pornography through the internet? How do you judge this intention?
2. Can you explain how - in both a juridical and practical sense - this
intention is being shaped, and in what ways observance of such a ban
will be enforced?
3. Has any such intention ever been discussed in a European context, and
if so, what were the conclusions of that discussion. If this has not
been discussed in a European context up till now, are you prepared to
initiate such discussion?
4. Are you prepared to initiate legislation leading to a similar ban on
watching and downloading extreme pornography in The Netherlands?
