Complaints
Paul Tavener, 04 Sep 2006 23:43:45
If anyone is able to it would be useful to have a few more people complaining to the BBC, the papers and their MP's about all the lies that are currently coming out of the Government.
I've done all 3 today.

I assume that the point here is not so much to complain about the BBC, but to alert them to the fact that a government minister was making clearly false statements regarding these proposals on national radio. Statements likely to mislead the listening public.
It is then up to the BBC to take the matter further; they might be shaken out of their indifference, remembering the whole saga of the Hutton report.

Wilco-gonna be on it 24 hours day-maybe even longer! I mailed the Libertarian Alliance's Sean Gabb today with the Coaker indictment-he was on the same broadcast I think.
You know-I don't reckon any of the papers really are keen on this at all-its a cop state narcs charter and not even the moral majority are too happy about these Gauleiters of the plod slavering about ransacking homes and computers-it hits too close to home "first they came for the jews and I did not protest cos I wasv not a jew..." People right left and in between are getting sick of being bossed about, spied on, politically corrected, stopped smoking, suspected of being paedos for talking to a 10 year old-the inquisition. This filth is straight out thought crime .

I sent this to the BBC news editors-
Dear BBC,
I am concerned about an interview that took place on the R4 World at One programme on Weds 30th Aug 2006.
Home Office minister Vernon Coaker MP was being interviewed about the government's "extreme" pornography proposals and clearly makes a statement to the effect that the majority of respondents to the recent public consultation on the subject supported the proposals. In fact, as the summary document itself shows, around 61% of all respondents were opposed, including some 71% of individuals who expressed a view. These are statistics which appear to be anecdotally born out in other BBC forums and polls on the subject.

What I am concerned about is that the minister has made such an egregiously false claim relating to a issue of public policy on national radio, apparently flying in the face of a negative consultation result. It all seems a little rich coming from the government after the Hutton report and their selective desire for veracity in journalism! Indeed there seems to be distinct lack of transparency in general, regarding these tendentious proposals...

National papers-
Daily Mail-not interested
Guardian-not interested
Telegraph-Reasonble,possible interest in Coaker's falsehood(s) and details will be sent.
Indepenent-Encouraging. Journalist covering the Home Office- seemed interested in the implications of Coaker dissembling so nakedly on the air and asked about the campaign against these laws, the complaints to the Home Office and the Parliamentary Standards Committee and appeared somewhat concerned about what is happening. Details sent, more to follow specifically on Coaker-details sent include addresses of this site and melon farmers. He says he can get the Radio 4 interview-seemed keen to hear it.
I don't know if others should get in touch-possibly not,he has what he needs at hand now to pursue it if he wishes.
Other papers not yet contacted-I doubt it's worth contacting the Sun,Star,Mirror.

Times? FT? Certainly the latter of these carried quite a critical editorial last year on the issue.

Sounds good.

I don't think so at present. If it doesn't go anywhere after a week or
so, then it might be worth others giving them a call.

I don't know about the Sun or the Star, but the Mirror would probably
come out with "Perverts attempt to smear Minister" or some other BS!
Cheers,
Graham.

I do think we need more letters to MPs.
But we also need mass blogging awareness raising etc....
we have set up mailing groups for cvolunteering and for MP lobbying etc...
write to me if you want to help.

I am also posting a letter on all the newsites I can find and writing yet
again to Andrew Turner who does not seem to have a clue why I am contacting
him - at first he seemed sympathetic and reasonable, but now he seems to
have lost all my previous correspondence and attachments and keeps sending
me stuff about small business legislation! Amelie
