Biased news/ positive comments

Graham Marsden, 02 Sep 2006 12:01:19

Hi there,

Despite the lazy and biased news coverage of this issue, it's reassuring
to note that there have been a lot of positive objections posted on
various "comment" forums after those articles.

I've decided to collate some of these to include in my next
correspondence with my MP:

The more of these we can get together, the greater the influence and
credibility of our case.

Also some useful links to bolster letters:

The effects of Pornography: An International Perspective. Milton
Diamond, Ph.D.
http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/online_artcls/pornography/prngrphy_ovrvw.html
- showing that, despite the increase in availability of porn in America,
Japan and elsewhere, sex crimes have actually gone down.

From the Backlash archive - excerpts from the Williams report on porn
(suppressed by the Thatcher Government after it didn't give the results
they wanted!)

http://www.langston.com/Fun_People/1994/1994BBY.html
Avedon Carol's article on how "Fake Science" can (and is) used to
"prove" the "dangers" of porn.

The more of this stuff we can get together, the better.

Cheers,
Graham.

I copied the postings, virtually all condenmations-from the BBC blog site-there were 119 entries when I made the copy.

we're collating media coverage here..

http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/press.html

can anyone get hold of a copy of Derek cohen's i/view on pm?

Onto a usb flash storage thingy.
I will get them to you-give me a little time, as I'm rather technologically backward! I'll have a look to see if the site is still there-the "Guardian" blog is excellent too,the article and umpteen responses to it hammer this Govt.to bits. More hammering will greet any green paper-unless it's radically different to the "Response doc". Three letters in the "Times" today-including one from Graham Marsden-all hostile. Tom Utley's excellent article in the "Daily Mail" yesterday is,well- excellent. He concisely gets in just about all the objections we have been making for ages about this in one little article-on the editorial page too-which had no coverage of the proposals one way or the other. The headline about "unenforceable laws" is a bit misleading-he objects to the principles too. Despite what people might think,I don't believe the "Mail" will even support this-this Nazism will scare millions of people-those who signed Longhurst's petition will in many cases I believe think they were just agreeing that some ultra violent sex websites should be "blocked". Just about anyone with a computer used by more than one person could suffer a miscarriage of justice on this. Look at the dearth of ringing endorsments for this apart from Beyer-and he is not really that pleased,as he wanted it even worse-and the fascist plods who love a chance to bully the innocent public rather than do the hard job of chasing proper criminals. Now many may be wondering if Bliar is setting the plod on them and threatening them with 3 years stir .

That's good, but might I suggest that there be a section dedicated
solely to links containing rebuttals as if you want to grab something
out of one of those for a letter to an MP you don't have to look through
the whole list.

Cheers,
Graham.
