Television coverage of todays events

Paul Tavener, 30 Aug 2006 20:00:08

Did anyone else see South Today this evening? They interviewed Liz Longhurst and did not give the slightest mention of any oposing arguments. The impression was given that what Ms Longhurst had to say was the end of the matter.

I don't think that this is inaccord with the broadcasting regulations over matters of political controvosy so I have just raised a complaint with Ofcom.

Anyone else who also saw this program and would like to complain can do so here:

The whole business is leaving me feeling very depressed.

I agree that much of the media reporting yesterday was predictably biased. Despite this being the lead story on the BBC news for most of yesterday, they apparently declined to allow a "have your say" debate on their website...note the contrast with one year ago! There was quite a good debate on R5live last night, with DemRed taking on that creep Salter, but that was the only ray of light all day from my perspective...

Please don't be depressed. We have to keep fighting this in whatever way we
can. I'm finding it comforting to realise that the anti responses to the
original consultation paper seem to have caused them to tone it down a bit.
I get the feeling at the moment that more people are becoming aware and
angry of what's going on. This isn't the end and we could still defeat
this.

Hi Ginny,

My spirit is now improving somewhat. There are a lot of angry words appearing appearing in web forums and "readers' letters" all over the place! I guess we need to work out how best to convey this to the bloody politicians...

A few things I'm thinking about with my nightcap-

Mrs L has not come over very well in the recent news articles IMO; she seems bitter and irrational and is not necessarily doing the HO's plans any favours.

The TV/radio debates I have seen went well for us. We've had a (surprisingly thick) police officer tell the public the virtues of "anecdotal evidence" on Sky News. We have had Salter lying to R5live listeners about how there is an international trade in abuse featured in such sites as "necrobabes"; it should be relatively easy for us to debunk this kind of rubbish. Although I haven't heard the interview, Coaker was apparently not able to offer much to R4 listeners beyond "the police believe the law should be strengthened".

As to "Croaker" himself, I reckon he would be ideal as an eponymous star in a "snuff movie" with a name like that? It could get quite a cult following. Although, we are told the internet is already totally awash with snuff movies, so it might not have so much commercial potential...

I have decided to name him "Vermin Croaker"-ho ho!
As for Goggins-well even Dickens couldn't have improved on that!

brilliant, Aredan did well too - but the opposition are horrifyingly narrow
minded.
