We need to get more supporters and we need to get them working.
a small team have started trying to arrange fringe eetings at the upcoming pary conferences. they need more support on how to go about this and what to do next.
If you can help at one or all, by being there, sponsoring the meeting, helping prepare the meeting, publicising it, finding sympathetic party activists pls get in touch.
If you have any other suggestions on getting the word out and getting supporters motivated, pls let us know....

From what I know of politicians and officialdom, the best way to legally fight them is with their own weapons/rules/arguments and turn them against them. Bliar put the Human rights legislation into UK law,but it clearly is something his mob feel they can ignore when they feel like it. Not only are these proposals as given in the Consultation Paper clearly human rights abuse, but the police could be in trouble as human rights abusers for acting against anyone on the basis of such a law. Anybody thus persecuted could rightly make a claim for compensation. This point needs hammering into Bliar's minions. It needs to be made clear that anyone threatened by such legislation could immediately appeal against it on the basis of abuse of civil/human rights and would have a very strong case. It should also be made clear to politicians who might support such legislation, that this evil rubbish they may wish to implement is not mere "banning" of material,as many of the politicos probably believe, but the criminalizing and jailing of members of the public merely for LOOKING at something-thought crime facism, utterely evil-and typical of Anthony Blair. It is an extension of the child porn laws-which are justified on the quite different basis in that they involve real crime against children-to adult fantasy material, which is not remotely comparable as it is not produced by non consensual abuse-ie real life crime. It is thus a massive utterly wicked state invasion of individual privacy without any claim to be necessary to combat some real life crime-the basis on which privacy is justifiably overriden by the law criminalizing the accessing of child porn. Child porn is not criminalized like this due to the mere moral objections which exist in the case of adult material, therefore it is illogical and ethically repugnant to compare the 2 as the Govt. does in the CP and which underpins its "case" for treating child and adult material alike.
More "argument" I know!

Hi DemRed
I'm responding to your appeal on IC and hope this is the right thread to do it in.
I'm not sure how much use I will be regarding the specific task of helping at party conference fringe meetings but if the people organising those can state specifically what they need volunteers for, I'll see what I can do.
You mentioned on IC that if people had problems with the smartgroup, then come along and do something.
I find the smartgroup structure is a bit unwieldy and user-unfriendly for the group's purposes and I would suggest that a web forum might meet our needs better. It will be far easier for people to navigate their way around for a start.
phpBB is open source web forum software that is rather basic but should be fine for our purposes. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of commercial boards like vBulletin or Invision Power Board but it is free and doesn't require an annual licence. It can also be modified with ease (I run a heavily modified non-bdsm phpBB board without any problems).
Does the group have any hosted webspace with an SQL database or have any volunteers willing to donate such space? If not, I could donate space on the server that my forum runs on but it would be preferable if Backlash has its own hosting.
It would also be very easy to set up a wiki (like Wikipedia or indeed the Wipipedia) so that the most useful content is easily accessible and can be edited and augmented by members of the group.
Just a couple of suggestions for making communication easier.

Hi. thanks for your offer of help
If you send an email address to demolitionred@yahoo.com, I'll forward it to the webmasters.
We have a website wwww.backlash-uk.org.uk and it may be possible to put the forum on there.
But.
We originally decided that this site-- which includes strategy etc should be disaasociated from the main site because we ddn't want the campaign held responsible for things said here.
something that might need a bit more discussion.

Hi DemRed, sorry for not getting back sooner on this.
Interesting point re keeping the forum and campaign separate, I hadn't really thought about that issue.
I was suggesting having the forum on Backlash's own web space because I think it may be preferable for the campaign if the forum is under the campaign's control rather than on somebody else's site. That way, no endorsement of a third party is implied.
I'll write to the webmasters first and see what kind of space they have and take it from there. If it's not suitable, I'll happily donate the space if needed and leave the appointment of moderators etc in Backlash's hands.
The "free forum" providers all seem to have small print saying things like "you may not use the Products and Services to store, use, contain or display pornography, adult novelties, adult toys, XXX material, escort services, Gorean, bondage, BDSM, bigotry, racism, hatred, profanity, or any material which may be insulting to another person(s) or entity". So that's us ruled out - nice to see us lumped in with racism, bigotry and hatred, eh? :-/
I notice that one or two bdsm munches have their boards running on free space run by one particular firm, so presumably our content wouldn't be an issue there (the only trouble is that it doesn't seem to be accepting new sign-ups).
Anyway, whoever's space we end up on, the board can easily be set up so that only registered members can view the forums. Membership itself can be subject to admin approval if desired. And hidden rooms that only selected members can see are possible too if necessary.

That really sounds great. Actually, along with a friend of mine, I
recently got some webspace (quite a lot and with a large amount of
bandwitdth). He is a libertarian so he would probably be alright with
me using it for this if that was useful.
