What if the worse case happens

Hello

So what do we do if our wonderful HO get their way and parliament votes some draconian law onto the statute book?
Just how does one get the ECJ to act on a matter of law that might conflict wth the ECHR? I have been told that because the UK is not signed up to the European constitution we have no real protection at all.
I suggest reading this article

Do we wait for the cops to do their thing and lovingly smash down doors and then hope for justice thru the courts? or shall we attack? What if a thousand or ten thousand citizens handed themselves in for this thought crime? Where would they put a thousand new prisoners? Maybe our stupid government would become a laughing stock in europe.

We can hope it doesn't come to this but we all know that the UK government has a long history of repressing ceratain minorities.
It used to be gays now its people like us ie soft targets!

I wanna emmigrate to a civilised country!

Alan

First the case is by no means lost. There is still a possibility that these proposals can be defeated or at least have some of the sting removed.

If they go through there is bound to be some test cases. It would be good if those test cases were on our terms - ie "mild content" rather than the most extreme of the most extreme. Not sure if this is possible to arrange.

The case(s) will (if we have the resources and money) go to court where we will probaly loose, then to the court of appeal and the House of Lords - hard to predict but probaly will go against us. After that to Europe and the ECHR - no idea about the outcome.

Ultimately it will boil down to how to protect people from police intervention. There are a number of possibilities that would be worth thinking about if we get to that point.

If a thousand people would be willing to offer themselves up for sacrifice, then that would be a very noble thing and would undoubtably have enourmous impact if managed properly. However what is the likelyhood of finding those 1000 people?

It still seems incredible to me that you could criminalise something without proof of harm or without overwhelming community support. An appalling abuse of office, IMO...

Perhaps worth remembering that nobody has yet commited an offence until the bill becomes law?
