Summer recess

Apparently, for Parliament this will be from 25th July until 9th Oct this year (unless there's a war with Iran, or something!). On that basis, we should be expecting a proclamation from the HO in the next few weeks.

Which is why we need to get a last lot of mailouts to MPs, asking them to ask questions on our behalf. We will be updating the site soon with suggestions of tactics, as discussed at Tuesday's meeting.

Do the suggested tactics include types of questions to suggest that our MPs ask? As I've already reported, on 14th July, I have a face-to-face meeting with my MP to talk about the proposals and the issues they raise. If I can have ready something specific that I would like him to do (like ask a specific question), I would think that this would add strength to my hand, and help to indicate that I will continue to pay an interest in his activities regarding this issue.

Any update on this info?
- getting close to the date, and nothing seems even rumoured.

It won't be rumoured. It'll just be in your morning papers.
All our info from the HO agrees it will be before summer recess.
In the meantime, Macrame posted this elsewhwre....
[As an aside to this point I emailed the home office yesterday asking when they were going to publish the result of the consultation as I had been told it would be out in march.
I also made a FOIA request for them to forward all the responses to me at the same time.
The response said that it was not going to be published until later in the year, prior to the summer recess at which time the individual responses might also be published on their website, if they were not then I could submit my FOIA request for those documents.
I have emailed them again today informing them that I have already submitted my FOIA request asking for all responses to be forwarded to me and under the FOIA they have now got 19 working days to either email me all the responses or to publish them for anyone to read.
Yet again the home office is keeping the information secret until after they publish the consultation response at which point the individual responses will be ignored no matter what they say.
I would strongly advise everyone to email the consultation department ( CLPUconsultations@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk ), any email will do under the FOIA simply stating that you are requesting the full disclosure of all responses to the consultation on extreme pornographic material.
If the individual responses are published before the government response then it can only give the backlash legal team and unfettered more amunition to use in any future negotiation.

Re the FOI request.
I have just asked for the same thing - and would advise others to do likewise.
I have been invloved in a number of FOI requests with Ofcom over the past 18 months and there are some things which ought to be noted.
Firstly although they have to respond within 20 days it's 20 working days and they may simply say that they are looking into it and then let you wait a few more weeks.
It was undoubtably a good decision to ask but don't expect to get the responses published - at least not quickly. They may say that they will be publishing them latter or that it's not in the public interest.
You can appeal against the decision to the Home Office and then to the Information Commissioner, but be warned the Home Office appeal will simply be a neccessary rubber stamping excercise and my Ofcom appeal to the Information Commissioner is only now being investigated 1 year after it was submitted due to the enourmous backlog at the ICO.

It would thus be like almost every other "consultation exercise" carried
out by this pitiful apology for a government: they first decide what
they mean to do, then they set up an inquiry or "consultation exercise"
that is so loaded and biased that they believe they'll get what they
want and, should their putative attempts to "connect to the people"
fail, they'll simply go ahead anyway. The politicians were never much
good and, in the years since 1997, they have become increasingly ruled
by the civil service to the point where they now remind one of a dog
being wagged by its tail.

I believe one might have better luck negotiating with the Taliban or the
Mafia, as those organisations still have some concept of honour.
From what I've just heard of Blair's defence of his 'hands on' deputy,
it would appear that this rabble now has no idea of that concept and I
really do believe the whole lot of them should be impeached.

I think that a lot of the responses are already available on this site and at www.melonfarmers.co.uk
