Consultation responses as yet unseen...

Hi All,

The Home Office are still procrastinating about publishing the responses they received; there was also an article about this on "Melon Farmers" today. I feel that pressuring them into doing so should become a short-term campaigning priority; I have already written an e-mail to the HO today.

They have said they will not publish them. We have been trying to request individual ones...without success.

If people would like to pick one and repeatedly request it that might help....

we still haven't seen the ones fron Channel 4 or the BBC, for instance.

Problem is... for a large proportion of the responses, we don't even know who the respondents are, let alone what their positions were. I will write to the BBC and Ch4 this evening and see if that route yields anything.

A standard response from the HO...question avoided! Interesting that the categories of respondent they describe preferentially mentions those likely to be pro-legislation!!
--------------------------------------------------------------

As you will be aware the consultation itself formally ended on 2 December, although we received a number of responses after that date which we are including in the consultation process. In total, the Home Office received nearly 400 responses received from a wide range of interested groups.

The responses were from individuals and organisations including police forces, charities, religious groups, professional bodies, mainstream media (eg British Broadcasting Corporation, Channel 4 and the British Board of Film Classification) and the judiciary. We also received a petition from the campaign organised by the Jane Longhurst Trust.

All the responses are being carefully considered and will feed into the consultation process

Officials are currently meeting groups whose responses raised issues which need examining in more detail, over the next few weeks and the Government will give a response to indicate how we intend to move forward, before the Summer Recess.

A chill has just flickered down my spine...

Are they going to play a numbers game, based on the JLT petition, and claim the vast majority of respondents agree with them?!
