Yes, the Yorkshire Ripper is another for the list and maybe the one most
people remember.
Obviously his "Voices, God told him" etc., was just his excuse and if the
internet had been around then his defence might have used that instead.

A journalist unearthed the sordid reality, evidence of his "sexual
perversion" not used by the prosecution at the trial. Maybe even lawyers have to draw
a line. Apparently he had some special gear which I won't describe here and
after the killings he masturbated in triumph over
his victim's corpse. Plenty of DNA for the police to prove the case!

Of course this has no connection whatsoever with us in BDSM and I am sure we
all share the revulsion of the public for those who take a young life just
to "get off".

Hopefully the Home Office is taking our consultation replies into account.

A more appropriate case would surely be that of Brady and Hindley, as it
appears Brady was a nutter who was influenced by the printed *word* and
various accounts of Nazi atrocities. Those crimes were committed before
even ArpaNet came into being...

Perhaps Gormless might like to draw up a list of books he'd burn?

PS Tried to post this on 21st but it didn't make it. Trying to make the
point not understood by HO that viewing extreme sites does not make a killer.
Maybe exciting for someone who already has that urge and who would psych
himself up to strike regardless of whether he saw
videos and internet sites and the proof is there from the records of past
cases.
Any new law would be futile as such a person would ignore, it if he even
knew it existed.
If life imprisonment or even the death penalty (Christie) did not stop them
then what hope for
new legislation?

Quite agree and I think when he first started the death penalty was still in
force which proves that the law is no deterent to the "nutter" psycho. He
also had books by deSade but was a coward who only picked on children.
Good point about burning books which would take us back to Queen Mary's
reign.
Read about a squire in those times who when asked what was on his bonfire
said, "I am burning my books before my books burn me!"
Seriously though HO should be reminded that there is plenty of printed info
about past atrocities and genocide available and if they ban extreme images
nutter psychos would get even more excited from the printed word and the
fantasies created in their tormented minds.
Yet another indication that proposed legislation will have no effect on such
people and should be scrapped.

And there's still a far stronger case to be made for banning the Bible/the
Koran on the grounds that their readers have killed/maimed/harmed far more
people than any consumers of pornography.
Not that I'm advocating banning anything, of course, but from Peter
Sutcliffe to the 7/7 bombers, superstition does far more damage than
masturbation.

I agree. It is also an excellant response to the arguement that all/most sexual crime is committed by users of porn.

all/most terrorist attrocities are committed by believers in religion, but that is not a good enough reason to ban religion is it?

Yes. Agreed. My point was that Sutcliffe's defence was a lie and that he
did it to wank over his victims corpse. Also he was not detered by the
penalty of life imprisonment and even his dad said, "He should have hanged!" One
hardly needs a crystal ball to weigh up the attitude of such a creature to the
proposed legislation, "When I feel the urge I will download it and if you
jail me I will do the same again as soon as I am released. There is nothing
you can do to stop me! I will run amuck till my numbers up".
