agenda points for next week's HO meeting agenda
demolitionred, 12 Apr 2006 10:06:38
Spanner, SM Pride and backlash are co-operating to draw up an agenda for next week's meeting.
I have been asked to suggest topics backlash would like raised.
These are the suggestions put forward by David M. Could you please amend (maybe set up a write board?) to adapt these to the format of agenda topics...
This matter needs urgent attention.
Thanks

Bad democracy - cite TB who summarised argument precisely.
bad politics
- will enforce authoritarian perceptions of LP
- proponents vocal, most opponents [100's k] will not be, will just vote other way
wrong solution
- bad things happening pre internet, trends unchanged
- "normalisation" argument needs far more research
- should devote resources to identifying Coutts like people from pre-existing evidence
won't work
- you don't have international support
- policing actions will be abitrary, far more instances than you anticipate
- definitional problems
- unintended consequences, eg more suicides
- will be contested through HRA - referring to Rabinder singh's opinion.

Hi DR,
There is nothing on this e-mail message - just the title.
Do you want agenda items?
If so ....
1. Incompatibility of HO proposals with HRA
What is their view. We feel that HRA guarantees BDSMers privacy. Warn of
substantial costs associated with compensation for ... loss of job, home,
costs associated with those who opt to live abroad, who knows what else!
2. Clarity
Desite the fact that most in Backlash oppose whole set of HO proposals, if
HO is determined to proceed, then people must be told catagorically what
they can/cannot do in the privacy of the bedroom/home. HO must not leave
anything open to interpretation by the police. The consequencies of
investigation (let along prosecution and any penalties) are so severe that
all must have absolute certainty concerning the limitations to be placed
upon their sexuality.
3. Why don't they accept proposals are unworkable...
(Because it is virtually impossible to provide absolute clarity, and
guarantee immunity from investigation with so much of what is available in
mainstream movies, let alone Internet!)
4. Suicide
Make sure HO is aware that they are in danger of breaching Article 2
convention on Human Rights - the duty of the state to take steps to protect
human life. This legislation will drive small numbers to suicide.
5. Emphasise determination of people to fight this - a step too far.
Most people believe what concenting adults do in the privacy of their
bedrooms is their own business (if you feel able to, warn that some B.L.
supporters are determined to use all legal means possible to bring down
Charles Clarke at the next general election).
Best of luck.
