Liberty
Polgara, 06 Apr 2006 21:08:48
I've just had my voting pack through for Liberty.
No one has submitted a motion on behalf of Backlash - I'm not sure if
this was a deliberate decision or lack of time or for some other reason.
In any case there is a motion on freedom of expression which looks like
it would lend itself quite nicely to an amendment to include sexual
freedom of expression. The deadline for amendments to motions is 2nd May
if anyone wants to pursue this.
Thanks.

Have you seen the Liberty response to the coinsultation process, which was particularly pro defending the rights of thr SM community. It is on their site if you want tolook before you go to the AGM.

I can only find the consultation response from Liberty that was broadly supportive
of the proposed legislation. Do you have a link for the response that is pro defending SM rights?

Its pro the legislation aslong as it doesn't affect BDSMers. I think during the discussion on ther freedom of expression it wouild be important to raise the inconsistencies within this position and to ask that they review their point and make a new contact with the Home Office.
Also to take note of any mebers that are supportive of our cause.
I can also send you flyers etc ahead of the meeting.

I agree - can I presume that DemRed was not referring to the notorious
response from Liberty that drew an avalanche of criticism and abuse from
opponents of the legislation?

You can presume that I meant the one I refferred to above and you can also presume to read my suggestion above that that would be a good starting point from which to tackle their opinion in any debate on freedom at the AGM.
Since they actively advocate the protection of the BDSM community but support the law, that gives some leverage with which to try and stir their eventual opposition to the law.
