SCottish Executive rejects web-based responses
demolitionred, 13 Mar 2006 17:29:23
ridiculous bureaucracry being what it is 100s of reponses to the consultatioin on extreme porn in Scotland -- and therefore probably in england and wales too -- have been rejected by an anti-spam firewall.
The Scottish Executive has apologised but said it is now too late to include these repsonses in the analysis of the consultation.....
please contact the HOme Office and check your response has been taken into consideration and let us know if it hasn't

Hi All,
I read the thread of one person on IC about this, but is it really the case that 100s of responses may have been missed? This is a SCANDAL!! How the hell can they get away with this?! Admittedly, some supportive responses may also have been stopped by the firewall, but THAT'S NOT THE POINT! This indicates an incredible negligence and complacency towards public duty and democracy...
I guess there are some BDSM groups meeting the HO soon and this should be brought up in very strong terms, in my opinion. After that, I don't know; I imagine there would be a very strong case for getting the consultation assessment re-opened in the high court, if only Backlash had the resources to do this. :o(

If it would help, I'll be willing to work on producing our own analysis of the rejected responses.

Hi Again,
On the same IC thread, I've just read that the Scottish Exec will be taking into account the "missed" responses. Is anyone who has been directly involved in this shambles able to confirm this or otherwise?

Dear All,
I haven't seen that the "missed" responses have been added to the SE website yet for public view...so much for promises!

There was only one missed, apparently. I've asked for anyone else that was missed to come forward. They have not. The scottish executive civil servants added in the response of the one complainant before they handed over their findingsd to the minister.

I notice the "SM Scotland" response has now been added to the website...and a strong contribution it is as well.

Hi All,
I notice that there was a question to Cathy Jamieson raised in the Scottish Parliament on this matter
-------------------------------------------------------------
Patrick Harvie (Glasgow) (Green): To ask the Scottish Executive how many responses to its consultation on the possession of extreme pornographic material will be excluded from the analysis of responses due to being blocked by the Executive’s IT system.
(S2W-24154)
Patrick Harvie (Glasgow) (Green): To ask the Scottish Executive how it will take account of the views expressed in responses to its consultation on the possession of extreme pornographic material which were blocked by its IT system.
(S2W-24155)
Cathy Jamieson: I am aware of one response to the consultation on the possession of extreme pornography which was blocked by the Executive’s IT system. Officials have been in contact with the respondent and their response has now been received and will be included in the consultation analysis.
Patrick Harvie (Glasgow) (Green): To ask the Scottish Executive how it will prevent the electronic blocking of responses to any future consultations on subjects of a sexual content.
(S2W-24156)
Cathy Jamieson: The current process for filtering, blocking and release of e-mails is necessary to ensure that the amount of inappropriate e-mail being received by the Scottish Executive can be kept to a manageable level. However, for future consultations on subjects of a sexual nature, we will consider on a case-by-case basis whether the filter should be disapplied.
