Meeting to Discuss Paper on Rape and Other Sexual Offences
MattatV, 01 Mar 2006 22:09:30
Bulletin:-
Remember the Spanner Case?
The Scottish Law Commission have asked us for submissions regarding
the "Discussion Paper on Rape & Other Sexual Offences".
This is re a proposed review of the laws relating to sexual offences
in Scotland, by the Scottish Parliament.
This represents our best opportunity in decades to clear the way for
those in the BDSM scene and to lead the way for the whole of the UK.
If Scotland gets this right, Westminster and the English Courts will
have to follow.
The most relevant area for us is section 6.35, at page 100 of the
discussion paper. This highlights proposal 67, namely:-
"The offence of assault should not be constituted by any activity to
which all of the parties have given their consent for purposes of
sexual gratification"
Responses are required by 01 May 2006.
If we miss this chance that is it gone, possibly for our lifetime and
for decades to come.
Please make the effort to attend the undernoted meeting to assist
with the feedback.
There will also be discussion on other Scottish Executive
consultations we have been involved in during the last 2 years. A lot
of work has been done behind the scenes on your behalf. Please come
and find out what has been happening and future plans to safeguard
the BDSM scene in Scotland.
We also propose to raise issues regarding the recent unfavourable
publicity from the tabloid press re certain events in Perth &
Edinburgh and address how the scene in general can deal with this
growing problem.
The meeting is open to the whole of the BDSM scene in Scotland and
the UK, no matter who you are or who you represent. At this time we
understand Spanner Trustees, SM Pride and other UK scene
representatives wish to attend.
The venue is a private conference hall in Glasgow City Centre, right
by Queen Street Station. This means everyone can make the venue. It
is not in licensed premises and the press will therefore be excluded
from this initial meeting, as part of it will concern their recent
behaviour towards the scene.
We hope to see as many people as possible. We have a lot of work to do.
Thursday 06 April 2006 at 7pm sharp.
