Comments about a new Home Office proposal...

"As far as I can see, this looks a complete dog's breakfast[...]"

"[...] describes the bill as a "pathetic hodge podge" that's being
prepared without proper consultation. It describes Home Office attempts
to modify the CMA as "ineffectual and pathetic". "This bill extends the
powers of the police, mucks around with existing policing structures,
creating extra bureaucracy, and contains a portmanteau of ill-thought
out miscellaneous measure,"

Except, although this sounds very familiar, actually it's the plans to
modify the Computer Misuse Act!

Good to see the Home Office is consistent in its approach to new
legislation!

Cheers,
Graham.

Blimey, did this one get stuck in time warp or something? I wrote it
five days ago and figured it had just vanished into Cyberspace!

Cheers,
Graham.

We took some advice from a senior civil servant yesterday. He suggetsed we should stop pursuing the badly drawn up angle and focus on the why it wont work, it'll cause chaos angles....

I think we will only have a clearer idea of the situation when we get the next big proclamation from the HO. I don't reckon they were expecting much, if any, opposition to these proposals, so it will be interesting to see which way the knee jerks next...

It's certainly true that the enforcement of any such legislation and the creation of "thought crime" will likely be complex to the point of absurdity and we can look forward to some protracted court "circuses", with lawyers the only winners. This might well scare Goggins a lot more than the moral and social aspects, I agree.

As I promised, as my contribution to the objectives shared by backlash
members, I have written a semi-autobiographical novel about BDSM in an
attempt to publicise who we are, what we do, and why this is neither
immoral nor unreasonable. Silver suggested it might be wise to get someone
else to read and review it before I set it in stone for global publication.

All criticisms will be objectively and gratefully received and will
influence the final shape of the book.

Anyone out there willing to read and criticise 400 pages of self-indulgence?

Amelie

DO you have a publisher? Because if you do, tightening up the manuscript is
your
publishing editor's job and, while other posters on the board may have
opinions to offer
on your work, they might be about as much use as a chili-coated pessary.
If you don't have a publisher and are self-publishing, I can recommend you
a good printing
firm who will charge you a fair rate without promising what they can't
deliver.

I think it was your advice that prompted me to go the Lulu route, at least
it was someone from Backlash. It is very rare for publishers to take new
writers on board now until they have proved themselves by self-publishing.

Silver and I already have 2 books out with Lulu and 2 more to follow. We
are very pleased with their services, but the hard work is still down to us.

This is something slightly different.
I was looking for reactions from people who understand the objectives of
this particular book to see if it hits the mark. It is already published in
draft form but I was looking for critical comment so that I can amend it if
necessary before it goes global.

It does not suit mainline BDSM publishers who are looking for titillation,
not truth and want quote "ball-breaking BDSM from the get-go" and it is too
raw for academic, literary or general fiction markets. It was written
specifically to show how BDSM can be part of a rounded life and practised by
intelligent, caring, creative people. But in case it misses the mark, I am
starting on a research programme for my Doctorate proposing the therapeutic
value of BDSM.

I was looking for critical comment so that I can amend it if necessary
before it goes global.

Was that just imagination or was it the voice of experience?

In case *this* message appears, it might be worth noting that a previous
message from me seems to have vanished into the aether or to have become
part of a pool of brown goo at the bottom of a server cabinet somewhere.

That message noted that the Whiparound event seems not to have been
mentioned in the lists of forthcoming events published by Informed

I received that message and replied to it. The reason is probably that the concert is not this coming weekend but the one after, so I imagine that the concert will appear in the next posting.

The concert is listed on the second page of events on the "Events listings" section of the IC website.

There is also a banner ad for it displaying on the IC website.
