I think this is very important - I have felt a little
frustrated at not having even a vague notion of what's
going on - I am sure that it has all passed before my
eyes as i read the hundred+ emails a day that this
list generates, but recalling it at will is rather
more difficult.

I think the key things are to know what has definitely
been achieved, what is in the pipeline (even if no
details can be made available) and what is being
considered to be started.

One reason I haven't joined any of the groups is that
I have no idea if I can be of any use to them, since I
don't have any idea what they are actually looking at
doing other than the very general description each one
has. That's why I decided to do something that I
thought I could do (which is organise the Backlash
Whiparound event for 4th March, and help would be
greatly appreciated!)

The other thing that is frustrating is that there is
no clear report on finances.

I do think we have a right to know:

a) what has been raised and how (these reports do come
through quite often)

b) what has been spent, and for what purpose

c) what the current balance is

d) if we have an idea for fundraising, whom we should
approach if it needs an initial outlay

e) how a decision will be made on granting or refusing
that payment.

(The last two are currently of great concern to me
because I am not currently at all certain of how the
initial costs of putting on the Backlash Whiparound
event will be met)

On the yahoogroups, there is a facility for sending something as
a "Special Notice".

Is there an equivalent on smartgroups??

If so, can it be set so that people posting meeting notes,
progress reports, accounts, other important notifications, can
send them as Special Notices?

- and that people posting such things can be encouraged and
enabled to send them as such?

i think this makes them stand out on the website?? - they
certainly are clearly marked when arriving as emails, so one can
identify them, and store them in their own folder if one wants,
or whatever one's personal equivalent is.

In fact, in yahoogroups, one can subscribe to a list as "Special
notices Only", which would be a valuable option for people
wanting to stay in touch but not get deluged under the zillions
of emails.

Maybe Smartgroups can do something similar??

I did a list of everything that has been achieved so far on this board as a result of the toing and froing with Silver.

The totals of money raised and from where are updated as soon as we recive a pledge or actual money on the homepage...

On the front page of this group it gives contact details for all the groups so that you can ask a question.

And it says if you want a question answered and don't know who to ask, contact me.

Whenever someone does this, I reply on here, on the homepage, to the person direct and on IC.

And as for spending backlash's money, you would have to put that to a vote here.

I saw that, and was pretty impressed by what's
happening.

I've not been visiting the homepage regularly, on the
(apparently mistaken) assumption that all the news for
members of the campaign group would appear on this
mailing list.

There isn't (as far as I can see) a sunning total of
what is actually left in the kitty after all the
things that need to be paid for have been.

This is fine if you know what questions to ask, but I
haven't the first idea of what to ask because I don't
have the faintest idea of what is actually going on in
each group.

That's what I would have expected, but it wasn't very
clear.

there is a total raised do far and a list of things we have sent money on or need to put money aside for. If It would ake it easire if I subtracted the latter form the former and did that too, I could
