Looks good.

I'd suggest that we use the URL http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk which goes to
the same place and makes Backlash's indepence from other groups clearer.
BTW does anyone know what's happening with the final website that was
planned to replace this one?

Paul, I note in your latest correspondence that the home office is refusing to comment on where the line would be drawn.

As it is clear from the consultation document that they have in fact put great time and research into viewing such material, and so clearly have some idea on some level internally where they want it to be, would a Freedom Of Information Act request be viable?

If successful this might force their hand somewhat in at least releasing the information re their internal correspondence, recommendations and research (including specific sites they refer to as "hundreds")?

Any thoughts?

I don't mean to sound over-critical, but I didn't find this summary very helpful. A lot of the responses were just described as "well argued response" (which seemed to apply only if it was anti-legislation). Also, a few of the descriptions were completely at odds with my recollection of the responses in question, and when I re-read the responses, the summaries were *still* at odds with my perception of those responses.

Using the format of this summary document, I am composing something more comprehensive, hopefully giving more of a flavour of what arguments were used by both sides. This will take me a few days to get through all the responses.

I think it might be a good idea to have several other people compose their own versions of summaries, that way if different people's perceptions of the same response are varied, then that can be reflected and/or debated to arrive at a generally acceptable summary.

Well...yes! As it was, this took many hours to do. If folks want to elaborate on this start, that is fine! Some points are, indeed, rather subjective in their interpretation. A more comprehensive look at the one-line-summaries for the "anti" responses is one area where this could be improved, I agree.

it. My 'Defending...' thread didn't work first time but my re-send
did. I'll try to set my gmail to use plain text as default.

Teddy's summary seems pretty good in representing complex and
confusing data. I dare say it could be improved, like all such
things. He's picked up two facts from the antis amongst others:
whether they think the material is real, and whether they think all
pornography is violence against women. Others might find other issues
more important to isolate, but to extract them may be easier said than
done.

Assuming people have the time, there may possibly be 6 to 10 factors
that could be extracted and tabulated with Y/N/-. A masterly and
impartial text summary could identify the main themes by group.

By all means if people can add to it, it could be improved. Of
course it's subjective, like any individual's work, but this could be
helped with more people's input. One person should have the final
decision, and fairness (plus his obvious competence) suggests Teddy.

This lengthy Paper takes apart the proposed law on human rights compatibility grounds-mostly damning them from their own words-the Home Office's own documents and what the Minister and Salter have said. All new legislation must be HR compatible-this proposal is so incompatible it boggles belief as to how on earth they think it can meet compatibility requirements.

The Joint Committee on human rights(JCHR)should study all proposed laws as to compatibility. I suggest this report and that of Rabinder Singh go to the Lords and Commons JCHR Committee clerks at the appropriate time. The Minister must make a compatibility statement in Parliament. Even if this somehow makes it thru in its present form as legislation,the incompatibility case to be made under human rights in the courts here and at Strasbourg seems overwhelming.
