We need to be sane and responsible

Silver, 05 Nov 2005 16:04:15

We need to be seen as a sane and responsible organisation direct action from TVs and the transgendered, adult babies or any other bdsm model will play straight into the government's hands.

They are picking on us specifically because we are a minority group, demonstrating just how different we are from the mainstream will not serve to promote our cause.

We need vanillas on our side fighting from our corner. We need to highlight the unjustness of what is proposed. This issue is to big for the Maids academy.

Lets get real. The consultation has a Nazi imprint all over it. Let's not keep this battle to ourselves and lose it hands down.

We have a responsiblity to widen the campaign because it is too important not too.

Respectfully,

Silver.

The eminently respectable Campaign Against Censorship will be putting in a formal submission to the consultation process. The Libertarian Alliance, which has been known to get favourable references in the Daily Mail, has issued a press release. The Society for Individual Freedom should be carrying an article on the matter in the next issue of its journal, The Individual, which will argue that these proposals, wrong on their own, should also be seen as a part of a package of recent authoritarian measures including the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill and the Terrorism Bill. And all with not a nipple clamp in sight!

Not sure any of the examples you gave actually are BDSM....

But notwithstanding that, again, you seem to be missing one of the key arguments against this.

The legislation as proposed would more than likely make viewing images of most BDSM acts illegal, except for the most mild bondage.

However with the exception of the most extreme, the vast majority of BDSM acts are in fact legal to perform.

This creates a fundamental contradiction that would never hold up to legal challenge.

The last thing we need is intolerance and prejudice within our campaign.

If having the support of 'TV maids', 'adult schoolgirls' and 'adult schoolboys,
ponyboys and ponygirls, etc. should embarrass you, then I fear you are a little
too sensitive for involvement with this group; best direct your energies toward
a more vanilla group which does not force you to mix with people you apparently
despise.

Widening the campaign does not mean forcing everyone to shut up, hide, do
what they're
told just because you don't find them appealing. A wide campaign will
include a measure of
direct action and confrontational speech as well as diplomatic or academic
debate. It's
the mixture that does the tric
