redcat and I watched this with interest tonight. I, mainly, because I once studied this period of history and was pleasantly surprised to see how much closer to what we believe the period to have been like than some other depictions.
Anyway, was intrigued by the viewer health warnings at the start about cruelty to animals and extreme sex, etc. There was a man being whipped...who ended his punishment by saying words to the effect of 'why stop there: I was just starting to enjoy it'.
There was what looked like a Mithratic ceremony, complete with bull sacrifice....followed by bull's blood running down and voer a rather nubile actress. The context was definitely sexual.
The more one reads this proposal....the more mainstream it seems to be becoming.
Anyway....I may see if I can hook up with the director of this production for an opinion.... unless anyone else has better contacts?
Regards,
M

I was expecting someone to yell, "Go on, hit him harder!" o-)
