Positive benefits of abolishing censorship

It occurs to me that one of the principal genres that will fall victim to this
law is the spanking magazine and its web equivalent. In the official view a
well-striped bottom is obviously beyond the 'trivial and transient' kind of
assaulyt that the law can ignore, therefore a crime was committed creating it,
even if it was consensual, (even if it was created with blusher and eyeliner -
to create a 'pseudo-photo'). So it will be a crime to possess any image that
portrays such a bum.
This is important; many of you may not realise it, but the most effective
campaigning tactic of STOPP, the group that achieved the abolition of corporal
punishment in schools was to deluge MPs with spanking mags, saying, "look
adults get off on spanking girls, including those dressed as schoolgirls;
therefore many schoolteachers are beating kids to achieve their own
gratification." A point well-made, though perhaps over-simplistic
Anyone trying to pursue the same tactic after this bill will be prosecuted and
silenced.
Many fundamentalist religious groups; including Catholics, Calvinists,
Evangelical, Dutch Reform Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and other
Theocrats routinely, severely and systematically beat their kids, particularly
girls, in the name of their God, in countries without laws against it. It still
happens surreptitiously in this country too, and was happening here openly and
legally in fee-paying schools and convents up until little more than a decade
ago.
(My apologies to anyone with religious beliefs who has led such a sheltered
existence that they did not realise this is and was happening; and I realise
some agnostics and atheists beat their kids too - but at least they don't
justify their abuse by saying their particular holy book or imaginary friend
[The One True Source} told them they should.)
Fundamentalist religious leaders find an open, uncensored, society dangerous
because it leads the younger generation to question the dogma they want to
instill into them, it leads youngsters into ways of thinking that question the
privileges and perks of their leaders.
They want to be able to censor all media, the way the Taliban did, the way the
Saudis and Chinese do, to eliminate dangerous dissent. And they also consider
it only reasonable to regain their historic right to be able to physically
terrify their kids and women into obedience. Few actually say that openly, but
that is the meaning of their coded words.
In all reports I have heard of consultations this government has had with
leaders of other faiths, I have heard that one of the demands was to "do
something" about the rising tide of pornography. I fear that the Religious
Hatred Bill, and probably this measure, are part of the "appeasement strategy"
this government is following. "Let's all pretend there is no problem, and shut
up those who will not conform to that pretense."
I consider that if both measures go through, it is very likely that many
children of your sons' and daughers', and certainly your granddaughters',
generation will be legally and systematically abused that way in faith-based
schools. Think about that.
