Just a few thoughts from a foreigner. It kinda feels intruding, but I've
been following legal issues around bdsm in my country (The Netherlands)
for a few years, and recently started following international
developments as well following the communications decency act and "2257"
debates in the US.

Interesting article.
It seems reasonable at a first glance. But somehow, the idea that the
demand for extreme bdsm pornography can and should be tackled has a ring
of "curing people" of their perveted needs. In a way, if taken to the
extreme, this goes well beyond the government proposals. Not only should
watching it be prohibited, people should be cured of wanting to watch
it. I get "a clockwork orange" kinda feelings reading this. Instead of
criminalising, it is medicalising the issue.
Secondly, comparing the demand for extreme bdsm imagery with the need
for child pornography that might haven arisen out fetishising the young
body is dangerous. The mere suggestion that BDSM and child porn might be
similar in *whatever* way to my opinion is dangerous to the BDSM
community as not all readers are going to understand the differences
without spelling it out to them word by word.
I wish you all the luck fighting these proposals. It's good to see you
all are organised and together so quickly, that would be utterly
impossible down here.
