A film, an anthem, a sponsor (?) and a new word

Probably because I am way out here in the sticks, have just got round to seeing John Waters' latest on DVD - 'A Dirty Shame'.

It is hilarious - but it also has a much more interesting side, given the clampdown by the 'moral majority' in the US. Cause it is a comedy about the struggle between the 'sex addicts' - led by Tracey Ullmann....and those in favour of decency.

Loads in there to offend the evangelical persuasion....and probably not too fanciful to imagine that John Waters understood perfectly what he was doing with this film.

Anyway...tis a good film. A useful anthem, for those looking for something to cheer themselves up with on a winter's night.

A sponsor? Someone go find John Waters. He may already be supporting loads of good causes in the US. Or he may have his own idiosyncratic take on things. But at the very least, if ever we get around to having things like benefits and public gigs, he deserves star billing.

And the word? A neat coinage....I wonder if it is already circulating in the US. To describe the evangelical moralising anti-sex brigade. Not straight. Not vanilla. But NEUTER.

It has such a lovely ring to it. Paul Goggins is a neuter.

I hadn't realised before.

Regards,

M
