Not a pervert

I think if we take the dictionary definition of
pervert, then actually we *don't* accept that we are
perverts.

From Chambers Dictionary:

Pervert (verb): "to cause to turn away from the right
course;...; to corrupt; to cause to turn from truth or
virtue..."

Pervert (noun): "...someone whose sexual instinct is
perverted."

Perversion (noun): "...a pathological deviation of
sexual instinct..."

In other words, if we are perverts then our sexual
tastes are by definition wrong, wayward, corrupt, and
need to be corrected.

We may be outside the norm in our sexuality, but that
does not make us wrong or wicked (the word perverse
has a definition, "deliberately wicked") so I think we
need, at least for this sort of campaign, to reject
the term.

Not least because it allows the "Other Side" to lump
us in with paedophiles again.

I am all for the doctrine of "claiming our names" but
we need to win some ground first, I think, and keep to
claiming those names that are used exclusively of
BDSM, and not also applied to other, more
objectionable, groups.

Well yep I'm a pervert if I'm talking to another pervert, but out
there I'm just a deviant. That do?

In fact, when people start talking about pervy things (that is, of
course, 'our' sort of perve, not the Sun's), I invariably say 'Well,
it's natural, isn't it?'. Does that help?

Seriously, I'm all for stopping running away from the nasty names, but
I tend to agree the time is not yet.

Yes, but some of us would like to reclaim the word pervert. I would.

Now look up 'queer', then explain why some homosexualists are *proud* to
declare themselves to be 'queer'.

No -- accept that some bubble-headed bigots may use it to try to reduce
their cognitive dissonance, but do not deliberately apply it to
ourselves or wear the name as a mark of pride.

I am sure that we should be seeking help from one or more organisations
of/for homosexualists, as they may be next to be censured by the
Jesuitical jerks.

Perhaps it's another "irregular verb":

I have a complex and imaginative fantasy life
You are a sexual deviant
He is a pervert.

And remember:

It's erotic to use a feather
It's kinky to use the whole chicken
It's perverted to use the whole chicken, then cook and serve that same
chicken for dinner...

Queer (adjective): "odd, singular, quaint; open to
suspicion; counterfeit; slightly mad, eccentric;
vaguely unwell, faint or giddy; homosexual (derogatory
slang)"

Compare that to the meaning of "pervert" and I don't
think it quite has the same negative connotations.

I want to, for sure. I just think that now is a very
bad time to be doing so, given what the dictionary
definition is.

Could I just have the sage and onion instead...?!

Cheers,
Graham.

Does that mean you desperately crave some stuffing?
