BBB Today

Just a quick note before i head into another working week to say the BBB
went really well

Between all the people there with an intrest in this i think we flyered
everyone.. and rather than just handing them flyers actually said what it
was about... that went down alot better.

Im impressed with the responce we got from people.... Adrian and I kept the
backlash stall area covered for most of the time and it was really good.

The best thing was that most people know about backlash now and what they
can do

Jenis worked really hard on this.

We also got £173. And the offer of free printing from a guy who runs a
printing firm which prints things like consultation documents. So it looks
like our own research papers can look just as professional as the other
side's.

Thanks also to Barb and Dave who gave us Zak's stall which she couldn't use
that day.

great news.

Thank you both for taking the time to come to the BBB and join the discussion. I was disappointed but not surprised how few people had read the consultation document and was pleased that we were able to point everyone towards the document and to the Backlash site. Will (abbreviated) minutes be available to the group? One lady will be posting flyers on her local University notice board especially after she realised that the many Goths in the Uni had probably downloaded more pictures of "dead" people than the whole of the BDSM community put together.
I will have flyers at the munch on Tuesday and will try to explain to the members what Backlash is about and how to get their copy of the Consultation document.
If you need any help with the stall at Kinklusive, let me know.

I meant also to thank Keith and Mick H for scheduling in this discussion (I
imagine bumping an already scheduled one) and giving us the opportunity to
talk about Backlash and rattle the can.

Well my thanks in return to all of the people on the panel (Adrian, Jenis, MickH, Lol and Emily) for contributing to what was a great opportunity to raise the issues and spread the word. For all the reasons suggested in previous posts, it was also very helpful to have two visible, intelligent and artciulate women there as well.

What's the chances of similar platforms being set up at other fetish markets around the UK? As Jenis said in her post, it's incredibly useful to talk directly to people and alert them to the ways it will affect them, as well as handing out flyers and press releases. Most people yesterday were vaguely aware, but few actually knew the proposals in any details or how it might affect them. Presence (as well as flyers) at events seems to me to be essential. As is talking to vanilla friends, family and work colleagues - you don't have to out yourself, we all agree it's an issue that potentially affects many thousands of people.

Regards,

Keith

As a add onto what Keith said... i strongly agree.... I know where I will be
thru the weekend and will have load of flyers in my handbag

Presence is important... as well as people being fully *up for* discussing
and explaining things.. to anyone... not just perves, even from talking
about it at work to discussing it with strangers on the train ( you can turn
the issues fairly nilla if your in that enviroment )

and Keith... thanks for setting it all up at the BBB and giving us the
opportunity to promote backlash and the issues

jenis xx
