Funding, Qcs and hello

hi
i used to be involved in sm pride many years ago and i stumbled across this group a few weeks ago.
Sorry if i am saying things that have been discussed already but my connection is very slow

Obviously, I didn't go to the first meeting but i have found the discussionhere very interesting and the government proposals are very scary. But i wondered why we are bothering to get an expert opinion from a high profile QC when we are working against a deadline. Plus, surely he is not the only human rights 'expert' capable of making an assessment of the situation. And I know for sure Matrix are not the only human rights chambers.

£1000 seems an awful lot wen we are only setting aside £200 for printing.
Maybe we should reconsider the expense of an overpaid barister until/if we ned to campaign furthher on the issue.

But if it is needed, perhaps we could see if the Spanner Trust could donate some of its money. I haven't noticed them doing anything recently. And since there doesn't seem to be much interest in prosecuting bdsm people for what we do in the playroom, maybe it would be a good use of the money that the community raised, to defend our right to look at photos of other people in their playrooms.

Is there a central place to pick up fliers?
And any kind of rota or published list of where has been leafletted so we dont repeat ourselves or miss out important places?

yours

Conto is co-ordinating who has flyers. I can arrange for you to collect some from me.

Rabinder Singh may not be the only but he is incredibly good and this is incredibly cheap to have such an esteemed barrister's name on our submissions. It is also an easy sum to collect. backlash has already received 230 poounds in donations from meetings.

We have now begun fundarising and will soon have much more.

The poblishing and advertising budget will be much higher. It cost 200 for the first round of flyers.

Jak

I've just seen your posting to this list concerning the Spanner Trust.

If you go and read the Trust's website you'll
learn what the Trust has done and is currently
doing. What little money the Trust hold is
earmarked for the legal challenge under the Human
Rights Act that the Spanner / R v Brown decision
is contrary to the Human Rights Act. A decision
in our favour would necessitate a change in the
law so as not to interfere in expressions of sexual libido.

The Trust is always looking for committed helpers
and supporters if you felt so inclined to help
make a change in the law a reality and to thereby
remove the threat that currently hangs over
bdsmers of whatever sexual orientation.
