The BBFC, when it was originally set up, was indeed called, "British Board of Film Censorship", but that name was changed many decades ago.
Maybe this is a Freudian slip, revealing that they want to take us back to the days of Joynson-Hicks, and his statement, "if it would cause the littlest girl to blush, then it should not be allowed"... _________________ If the government could read my mind, they'd ban it |

I don't think that the change of name of the BBFC was all that long ago. Probably in the Thatcher period.
The new name is Orwellian, since certification by the BBFC is necessary before a film or video can be legally shown or distributed in the UK. That's censorship by any standard, and the old name at least had the virtue of honesty. |

Just in case this is better for anyone, some shorter links, with it embedded in the browser, at:
Tuesday 16 October:
http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Player/index.aspx?Encoding=7443 - Magistrates’ Association, and Probation Boards’ Association, Police Federation of England and Wales (at 1h43m), Stonewall
Thursday 18 October:
http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Player/index.aspx?Encoding=7460 - Youth Justice Board, and Children’s Society
http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Player/index.aspx?Encoding=7468 - Prison and Probation Ombudsman, Liberty (at 52 mins), Local Government Association
Does anyone know off hand which others of these cover extreme porn? I might try to stick this info on the wiki, so it's easy for people to find. |

It's curious she says that people would only prosecuted if there was something more than arousal (though she doesn't seem to say what).
I'm glad that the interviewer makes the link with more mainstream violence, video games, etc - I mean, is the Government going to criminalise all violent images? (Well, I hope not - I wouldn't put anything past this Government! But at least there'd be far more opposition if violent films and video games were being considered alongside porn...)
He asks her for evidence, not including anecdotal evidence - and she replies with anecdotal evidence...
Still, if that's the best the supporters have, it's not so bad - are there any other supporters of the extreme porn law who have or will be speaking? |
